Brainless

::::::::::::::

One day while intently
Picking my nose
I half-notice
What appears to be
Pieces of meat::::
Now, my nose is crooked::::
A surfing accident
And there's these pockets
And wells in there::::corners
To dislodge::::feels quite
Wonderful of course
You know. Anyway::::
Bits of brain-meat
With perhaps snotty blood
Mixed-in::::not looking
Too close, you see
I mean just the notion
That somehow this
Gunk is other than
What it is supposed
To be::::starts
My thoughts to swim::::
And as I dig and pull
And mine and flick::::
Madly::::I can't stop::::
My mind in meditation
The evacuation endless::::
Pleasant, yes::::as I've said
And perhaps that's it
Addictive behavior::::
I can't stop
I can't stop
Until suddenly
One huge glob
Is pulled out
And I am forced
To examine it
And yes::::it is
A chunk of brain-meat
That spongy gray quality
And all::::very
Recognizable::::and when
I look down over
To the spot where
I've been shunting
The stuff::::realize
Yes::::it is my brain::::
Bloodily stained
Tiny gooey pieces::::
All of it apparently::::
The whole thing.
Well, how embarrassing!

But then perhaps it won't be
Without its merits
To be brainless::::
No fear of them
Coming at me
With electro-shock
For example::::no
More headaches maybe
And getting up
Out of bed
Lifting my head
Off my pillow
Will be much easier
Even walking
Really::::I mean
There is this gentle
Swishing going on
Inside there
But if I stand perfectly still
It sounds like calm sea.

No more big thoughts
Which always somehow
Bothered me anyway
No memories
No more little voice
To ignore::::no
This is quite simply
Marvelous::::exceptional
The freedom I've
Always wanted.
