Instead of extracting taxes, I believe governments should pay people
for being citizens - the more one earns, the less they give - but
everyone at the end of the month receives a bonus check - those
without incomes given enough to survive - 'Thanks for being a citizen.'
And with things and food - people who buy healthy items are rewarded
with a tremendous break in its cost - subsidized by the government -
whereas unhealthy items are excluded from such subsidy. And
businesses are rewarded with bonus checks for producing something good,
and given no incentive for producing something bad ('good' being
related to the concept quality, and environmental concerns).
Public transport free. Doctors, medicines (including the
alternative paths), and dentists free. Education free.
It is up to an
economist to figure-out how we would pay for it all, but if we were,
for example, to replace the governments of the world with computers,
the savings in salaries, political campaigns and office spaces alone
might do the trick.
