scene one:

(The stage is black. THE PIANIST in the orchestra

pit plays Eric Satie's Nocturnes. The lights come

up during the music. The space is white and contains

no shadows. A MAN IN WHITE lies beneath A MAN IN

BLACK)

scene two:

(THE PIANIST plays Eric Satie's Sarabandes while

A MAN IN BLACK rises and looks back in anger at

A MAN IN WHITE who remains prone)

scene three:

(The music stops. A MAN IN BLACK talks while

staggering forward and sideways)

MIB: I am trying to remember water.

scene four:

(THE PIANIST plays Eric Satie's Gymnopedies while

A MAN IN WHITE rises and A MAN IN BLACK falls to

his knees)

scene five:

(The music stops. A MAN IN BLACK sweats and is

shaking. A MAN IN WHITE is partched dry, and has

given up the will to survive)

MIB: I'm in the desert! This is not my body! That,

that over there is my body!

MIW: What if there never was such a thing as water?

MIB: I don't understand my necessity for an item I'm

not sure exists!

(A MAN IN WHITE embraces A MAN IN BLACK in a sterile

manner. He then lets go and staggers away)

MIW: Is water just something I dreamed?

(He stumbles to the ground. A MAN IN BLACK rises

to a firm stance)

MIW: What if there is such a thing as water?

(pause)

Water!

MIB: I don't remember!

MIW: Water!

MIB: But what if...what if rain exists?

(A MAN IN BLACK lies on top of A MAN IN WHITE)

MIW: (ecstatic) My god! My god! My god!

(Stage black, THE PIANIST plays Eric Satie's

Reverie de L'Enfance de Pantagruel).
